Trekking Epcot

Epcot is one of the parks available to visit at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Though I have been to Disney World three times at this point, I’ve never visited any other parks except Epcot. I’m not inclined to wait in line to ride a terrifying roller coaster so this park is my favorite. I enjoy walking peacefully and looking at the scenery. Epcot has a way to overwhelm my visual sensory with colors, structures, and forced perspectives; and to me, trekking around Epcot is my favorite way to visit the world of Disney.

If one could order the weather, the time Jason and I visited Orlando was the best kind of weather to order on the menu. It was cloudy and breezy. The temperature was perfect to drink an espresso or to munch on some Mickey ice cream on a stick. Though Epcot is divided into two different sections: the future world and the world showcase, this trip, I wanted more time in the world showcase so we headed there as soon as we entered the park.

Sidetrack time! I noticed that people with bags have to wait in line about four times as long as people without bags when entering the park. A little tip from me is to not have a bag at all or tell your husband to carry the bag while you go to the information section. We did it incorrectly. I went through security with my bag and told Jason to ask for some information about our ticket. Sure, he found out about our ticket; however, he did not get a park map nor ask for the show times. His defense was that I did not give him enough direction. If Jason was a programming language, that would be his favorite error: not enough instructions.

Back on track. Talking about tracks, one of the rides at Epcot is to ride the Test Track. I won’t spoil too much of the ride, but it’s pretty amazing. This ride gives you a feeling of riding in a convertible. I also would like to point out that it has a lot of education tidbits about cars before and after the ride. Epcot is filled with these nice-but-not-intense rides that suite chickens like me. Another good ride to get on is the Space Ship Earth. It is an easy going ride to view the history of technology. Basically Epcot is a very well done museum with interactive activities; and that’s perfect for the learner in all of us.

This visit, I dragged Jason straight through the future world and into the gate of the world show case. It was so much walking that Jason was immediately hungry by the time we crossed Mexico. Either that or he smelled some tamales that made him miss our Texas home. I grabbed one of those passports sold at most of the merchandise locations, and I was super excited to get all kinds of stamps around the world. By the time they opened the gate, we rushed to China and started collecting stamps. Well, it was more like I was running around collecting stamps and bribing Jason with food.

Side note time! Since we stayed at Fort Wilderness this time, we got a magic band. A magic band allows us to tie this watch-shaped device to our credit card so that we can use the band to pay for everything and anything. This thing is dangerous. It gives us power when we do not know how to control it, especially when it comes to food. Would you like some sushi? Sure! Beep! Barbeque ribs? Beep! Hummus? Beep! Espresso? Beep! Fish and chips? Bangers and mash? Wontons? Baklava? Lobster anything? Plushies????? Beep, beep, and… beep. Then they phrase it so magically with “don’t worry about checking out of your room, we’ll send you the bill after you leave.”

The thing is Disney does such a great job in Epcot to entice you with everything from seeing beautiful colors to smelling savory appetizers. To name some of my favorites, I enjoyed hearing the Taiko drummers while in Japan, looking around the market in Morocco, the smell of sweet caramel popcorn in Germany, and all of the kids blowing bubbles everywhere. It made me happy when it started sprinkling as we crossed the pretend English Channel from France to England. The nice weather and the bubbles made our entire visit extraordinary.

Some improvements that we should take into consideration for next time includes taking lots of breaks. I think combining the break with smaller meals would make our day more pleasant and maintain a good level of energy throughout the day. I also want to see Remy from Ratatouille in France. I’m a sucker for anything Pixar related. I also would like to find a solution to bring my camera in wet condition because I missed out on capturing the fireworks moments because it was raining that night.

Overall, we enjoyed visiting Epcot together. Again. Jason definitely appreciated the Tokyo Dining reservation that I made for us. He thought the firework show at the end was worth the standing up in the rain! I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of Coco to the pyramid in Mexico. We savored our moment to figuratively go around the world in one day. Maybe Disney will add some African and Southeast Asia countries in the future. Here’s to hoping for a bigger dream!

Have you guys visited Epcot before? Tell us what we missed so we can put it on our to-do next time!
