Cheaha State Park is Beautiful in the Summer

There is a town called Anniston in Alabama. It is a small town where Cheaha State Park is located. Jason and I visited this place to see the mountains and wine. We liked walking around small towns as much as the big towns.

We climbed to the highest point in Alabama.

Somehow, I ended up liking this place a lot better than I expected. We walked around a lot. We walked on one of the easier trails and went to a restaurant at the top of the mountain. The view was undeniable gorgeous. The weather was warm and sunny so it was a great day to take a hike. I always favor the cooler weather, but the exploration was always good with Jason. He seems to always know his way around the outside world.

The view at the end of the trail in the Cheaha State Park. What a view!

We visited Southern Oak Winery. As we walked in the front door, the lady greeted us with a smile. We chatted with her for a little bit then she gave us some wine to taste. I really liked their Blueberry fruit wine and Blue Velvet muscadine wine. After we got done tasting, she gave us the tour of the wine factory. It was a small scale wine plant where they harvested their own grown muscadine grapes and turned them into wine. There was no opportunity for me to jump in and smash grapes with my feet at this place. Maybe next time at the next winery we visit!

We walked around the downtown area and explored more of Anniston culture. They had some type of farmer’s market and festival. There was live music on the street to entertain the shoppers who visited all the small shops around the area. I wanted to do one of those painting pottery shops, but we did not because we would have to come back to pick it up after they fired up the pottery. We were not planning on coming back around so we skipped that activity.

This little city in Alabama was a nice place to spend the weekend. There was enough for us to do around the area yet it was quiet at night. There was a balance of activities and rest time. I enjoyed visiting this place, and though there was no yarn shops around, I wouldn’t mind making a stop here in the future. Till next town, awesome readers!

Nerd out,
Stephanie
